FAQ

Most frequent questions about our off-grid DIY facilities

With many places now using compost toilets, more people are familiar with the concept,  but if you are not don’t be scared!  Our Compost toilets, while rustic and pretty basic are private, comfortable, with proper toilet seats,  smell free and clean.   With instructions for how to use them in each one there’s no need to worry, and yes there is toilet paper  and somewhere to wash your hands too!

We have just launched our third generation of solar showers each one a bit better than the one before.

We also now have the luxury of a Gas shower for cooler times, and grey days

We run only on solar and water power, but usually have plenty of power.

Charging points are available for your use,  on-site, and in most of the accommodation too*  so you don’t need to worry about running out of charge.

Please check with us before using other electrical items.

Thank you

(*charge points not available in Cherry Belle or Honeysuckle the bell tents but you can use the plugs in the cabana )

There are several answers to this question.

  • as sustainability project that aims to be toxic chemical free, the question of how to keep the water clean without nasties was frying our brains a bit too much.
  • Plus the power usage is a bit crazy.
  • We are also surrounded by mountain woodland so not allowed to have fires in the hot dry months, so even a wood fired hot tub is out of the question.
  • I’m just not that into them. personally, I get a bit icky about floating around in a tub with others peoples dirt particles!
